Do I have to be a Texas resident to participate?

SeekTexas was created by "Texans bringing Texas to the World." The SeekTexas Treasure Hunt is open to anyone, anywhere in the World. The person who ultimately finds the Treasure and claims the Prize can be from anywhere. The Winner needs no tools other than keen observation and problem-solving skills. Above all else, SeekTexas intends to encourage a deep respect and love for learning about Texas, its history, folklore, small towns, and wide-open spaces.

What is the Treasure?

The Treasure is a 3-inch metal medallion. To keep the Ten (10) one-ounce Gold American Eagles safe, the Gold resides in a Safe Deposit Box in a Texas bank. To represent the Gold, a 3-inch metal medallion is enclosed inside a weather-resistant box and hidden in a public place. The person who finds the Treasure/Medallion and solves the Medallion's final mystery is declared the Winner.

What is the Prize?

The Prize is both Gold and Cash and goes to the declared Winner. The Gold is Ten (10) one ounce Gold American Eagles. Before starting the Treasure Hunt, SeekTexas deposited an initial $5,000.00 into a Texas Savings Account. For every SeekTexas Book sold and registered, $5.00 Cash is added to the Savings Account. The Winner receives a Cashiers Check for the total balance of the Savings Account at the time a winner is declared.

Is there a time limit on finding the Treasure?

There is a (3) year limit to find the Treasure. The Treasure Hunt begins on June 2, 2025, and ends on June 1, 2028.

Where does the Prize go if the Treasure isn't found?

If no Winner is declared by June 1, 2028, the entire balance of the Savings Account, and the (10) Gold Eagles will be given to the "Remember the Alamo Foundation", a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides support exclusively for the Alamo and its preservation, educational outreach, and public programs.

Will the "Remember the Alamo Foundation" benefit if a winner is declared before June 1, 2028?

Yes. Before starting the Treasure Hunt, Seek Texas deposited an additional $1,000.00 into a second Texas Savings Account. For every SeekTexas Book sold and registered, $1.00 Cash is added to the second Savings Account. The second Savings Account is for the Benefit of the “Remember the Alamo Foundation.” Should a winner be declared before June 1, 2028, then the entire balance of the second Savings Account goes to the "Remember the Alamo Foundation," a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides support exclusively for the Alamo and its preservation, educational outreach, and public programs.

Is the 3-inch metal medallion located in the state of Texas?

Yes, it is a single 3-inch metal medallion enclosed inside a weather-resistant box in a public place. The Treasure is not buried or located on private property; it is in a location legally accessible by the public.

Can I return my SeekTexas Book?

Participants can return SeekTexas Books that remain unregistered, unopened, and shrink-wrapped. The Book should be returned in its original SeekTexas box. The Purchaser is responsible for the return shipping costs. SeekTexas will gladly refund your purchase price upon receipt and inspection of your purchase. Read more about our refund policy here

Can I share my Book with my friends or family?

If you have collaborated in your efforts with other persons, you will be fully responsible for dividing the Prize among such collaborators. The Prize is awarded solely to the participant identified with the Registration Number for that participant's Book.

Do I have to drive anywhere?

In addition to SeekTexas being a legitimate treasure hunt, SeekTexas's mission is entertainment and education, featuring the essence of Texas, its history, and folklore. The purpose of the Book is to inspire travel throughout Texas. SeekTexas is an adventure encouraging participants to get off the major highways and onto the often twisting, many times long stretches of Texas back roads. It is here where small-town exploration and great stories await you, your family, and your friends. Perhaps, you may visit the 254 Texas County Courthouses and explore the seven parts of Texas: The Gulf Coast, The Piney Woods, Big Bend Country, Hill Country, the Panhandle, the Prairies & Lakes, and the South Texas Plains.

Do I need climbing gear, shovel, compass, metal detector, etc...?

Participants and their families and friends require no special equipment to find the Treasure. The Treasure is not in a dangerous location (e.g., underwater, cave, building ledge) or on private property. Destruction of, trespassing on, or otherwise disrespecting any real or personal property is unnecessary to find the Treasure or otherwise participate; any such destruction, trespass, or otherwise disrespect is prohibited. As such, equipment that will destroy any property is unnecessary and expressly prohibited.
